Preamble

You are standing before an unusual gift.

It is neither a simple object nor a title deed. It is a personal, association-based and memorial link with a real plot of nature that others have chosen to preserve, care for with respect and pass on.

By becoming a Chevalier, Dame de l’Astrée or simply a member of Les Chevaliers de l’Astrée, you join a community that believes in a simple idea: we care for what will outlive us.

In the event of any conflict between this Charter and the association’s Internal Regulations, the Internal Regulations prevail. The Statutes remain, in all circumstances, the superior reference document.

1. The link to the estate

Article 1 — What you receive

One or more Chevalier plots, notably designated “PCR — Pied Carré du Roi (Royal Square Foot)”, may be associated with your name or with that of the person to whom the membership is offered. Each Chevalier plot corresponds to a real portion of land, located and referenced within an estate presented, managed or supported by the association.

This connection constitutes a personal, association-based and memorial reference point: a way of saying “this one matters to me” among all the others, without changing its ownership or creating any land right.

Article 2 — What we ask of you

• Receive this gift with an awareness of what it represents, rather than as a simple object.
• Protect, at your own level, the spirit that inspires it, by respecting the places and the people who bring them to life.
• Pass on in turn, if you wish, an idea, a gesture or an attention to the living world.

What is entrusted to you is more than a membership. Above all, what we share is an attention.

Article 3 — What it is not

The assigned Chevalier plot does not constitute, in particular:

• a title deed or any real property right;
• a sale, rental, lease, concession or right of use;
• a right over the land, plantings, harvests or resources;
• an exclusive, permanent or irrevocable right of access to the estates.

The title Chevalier or Dame de l’Astrée is purely honorary. It is neither a title of nobility nor an official distinction: it is a way of naming a commitment.

2. Discovering the estates

The estates of Les Chevaliers de l’Astrée are living, fragile and evolving places. Discovering them is based on trust, respect for nature and consideration for others.

Article 4 — Scope of the Charter and ownership of the estates

This Charter applies to all land and estates presented, managed or supported by the association. Acceptance is required to access restricted information concerning the precise location of Chevalier plots and, where applicable, access arrangements or codes.

The land and estates may belong to the association, to individuals, to legal entities or to public bodies. Their owners and managers retain all their rights. Access conditions are determined by the owner or manager and by the association, in accordance with applicable agreements and the law of the country concerned.

Article 5 — Visiting conditions

Access to an estate is possible only when it is expressly indicated as open in the Chevalier’s personal space, or when it results from an invitation, an event or an authorization communicated by the association or the owner. When open access is announced, visits may take place without an appointment, from sunrise to sunset, unless otherwise indicated.

A location, map, QR code or access code never constitutes, by itself, a permanent authorization to enter.

The association or the owner may limit, postpone, suspend or temporarily prohibit access, in particular in the event of:

• bad weather or natural hazards;
• works or agricultural operations;
• danger to people, animals or crops;
• ecological, health or safety requirements;
• or any other legitimate reason.

Any temporary instruction communicated in the personal space or displayed on site must be respected.

Article 6 — Access on foot

Visits to the estates are made on foot. Unless expressly authorized in writing, visitors may not enter the estates with a motorized or non-motorized vehicle, including a car, motorcycle, bicycle, scooter or similar device.

A request for adapted access may be considered in advance. A written exemption may be granted when the characteristics of the site and safety conditions allow it, without any guarantee that adapted access can be provided. Maintenance, management and emergency operations remain permitted.

Article 7 — Guests, minors and animals

The Chevalier may be accompanied by family members or friends when access conditions allow it. The Chevalier must make them aware of this Charter and ensure that it is respected. Each guest remains personally responsible for their own actions.

Minors remain under the supervision of the adult accompanying them.

Dogs may be admitted when kept on a lead and under the constant supervision of their keeper. Their access may be limited or temporarily prohibited to protect wildlife, crops, animals present or visitor safety. Other pets are admitted only with the authorization applicable to the estate concerned.

Article 8 — Respect for the places

Each visitor undertakes to respect wildlife, plants, soils, crops, equipment and the tranquillity of the places.

Except as part of an activity expressly organized or authorized by the association, it is prohibited to:

• pick, harvest, take, uproot or move any natural element;
• feed, chase or disturb animals;
• cross a fence or enter an area marked as prohibited;
• leave waste behind;
• plant, develop or install anything;
• damage crops, trees, paths or equipment.

Any fire, barbecue, brazier, candle, firework or flame device is prohibited unless there is written authorization and specific supervision. Smoking or vaping is prohibited in marked areas and near dry vegetation, buildings, animals or stored materials.

Each visitor must take away their waste and leave the premises as they found them.

Article 9 — Caution, insurance and liability

The estates are natural areas without permanent reception facilities. They may contain uneven ground, vegetation, branches, animals, insects, tools, structures, wetlands or other hazards inherent to their nature.

Each visitor must:

• assess their ability before coming;
• wear suitable clothing and footwear;
• remain on authorized paths when indicated;
• give up the visit when conditions appear dangerous;
• follow the safety instructions communicated.

Each member must have appropriate personal liability insurance and remains responsible for damage caused by their fault, carelessness or failure to comply with this Charter.

These provisions are neither intended nor effective to exclude liabilities imposed by law on the association, owners or managers.

Article 10 — Confidentiality of locations and access

The precise coordinates of Chevalier plots, access routes, padlock codes and information relating to sensitive areas are reserved for authorized members.

They must not be:

• passed on to unauthorized persons;
• published on the Internet or social networks;
• made identifiable through geolocated photographs;
• reproduced in a directory, public map or online service.

At Les Eaux de Velours, when access is open, the gate must be closed and the padlock correctly replaced after each passage. The code may be changed at any time. Only the code displayed in the Chevalier’s personal space is authoritative.

Article 11 — Incidents and dangerous situations

Any incident, damage, deterioration or danger observed must be reported promptly to the association using the contact details provided in the Chevalier’s personal space.

In an emergency, the visitor must contact the competent emergency services directly, including 112 where that number applies.

Article 12 — Organized activities

Meetings, planting, picking, harvesting or other activities organized by the association may be subject to specific instructions. These instructions supplement this Charter and prevail for the activity concerned when they are more restrictive.

No individual planting, picking or harvesting is permitted outside an activity expressly organized or authorized.

Article 13 — Failure to comply with the Charter

If this Charter is not complied with, the association may suspend the member’s access to the estates, locations, codes and restricted areas.

In an emergency or where there is a risk to people, property or the estates, this suspension may be immediate and precautionary. Any final sanction or exclusion is imposed in accordance with the Statutes and the Internal Regulations, after informing the member and giving them an opportunity to submit observations.

Article 14 — Recording and renewal of acceptance

Acceptance is recorded with:

• the member’s identity and the membership concerned;
• the date of acceptance;
• the version of the Charter accepted;
• the technical information strictly necessary to preserve proof.

This data is processed in accordance with the association’s Privacy Policy. Fresh acceptance may be requested in the event of a significant change to the Charter.
