What is membership in Les Chevaliers de l’Astrée?

Membership allows you to join a community committed to nature, living heritage, and passing knowledge on.

Each membership is associated with one or more plots located within the estates des Chevaliers de l'Astrée. It allows members to follow how these places develop over time and to take part in the activities offered by the non-profit organisation.

Do we become owners of the land?

No.

The land remains the property of its respective owners or of the non-profit organisation depending on its status.

A document formally makes it available for the benefit of Les Chevaliers de l’Astrée for an unlimited period.

Members do not become landowners. They therefore have no property tax, local tax, or maintenance costs to pay.

Each membership is associated with one or more plots within these estates and allows members to follow their development over time.

What is a Royal Square Foot?

The Royal Square Foot is an old unit of area used in France before the Revolution.

Les Chevaliers de l’Astrée use it as inspiration to allocate plots in the same way across all the estates.

One Royal Square Foot represents approximately 0.1055 m².

Why use the Royal Square Foot?

Because it provides a single reference unit for all the estates.

Instead of allocating square metres in some places and square feet in others, each member receives a number of Royal Square Feet corresponding to the package chosen.

It is a way of unifying the project while bringing an old French unit of measurement back to life.

How can I find my plot?

Each member receives a unique individual reference and the GPS coordinates of their plot or plots.

This information appears in the documents provided upon joining and makes it easy to locate the plots on Google Maps or any other compatible mapping system.

Can the estates be visited?

Yes.

The estates are accessible to members, provided they respect the sites, nature, and any activities taking place.

When necessary, an access code or practical information is provided to make visits easier.

What will I receive?

Depending on the package chosen:

  • A certificate of Lady or Knight of Astrée
  • One or more plot references
  • The corresponding GPS coordinates
  • An introduction to each estate concerned
  • Access to news and updates about the estates
  • A printed pack for the relevant packages

Some packs may also contain small symbolic gifts inspired by the estates and their history, or by Les Chevaliers de l’Astrée.

Can I give a membership as a gift?

Yes.

A membership can be given for a birthday, retirement, birth, or simply to please someone who cares about nature.

Is membership limited in time?

No.

Membership is granted for life.

What are membership fees used for?

Membership fees contribute to the non-profit organisation’s operation, the upkeep of the estates, the development of new projects, and the organization of activities for members.

What activities may be offered?

Depending on the location and the season:

  • Apple, almond, or olive harvests
  • Discovering biodiversity
  • Nature outings
  • Cultural gatherings and workshops
  • Activities proposed by members
Is the title of Knight or Lady of Astrée a title of nobility?

No.

It is a courtesy title specific to the non-profit organisation, used in a friendly and symbolic spirit.
